The latest developments from Cablepoint.
A completely new investment of IT software now integrates our manufacturing to the Web enabling our customers to view their order book on a real time basis.
Cablepoint where delighted to receive a European supplier award from Tyco Electronics at their supplier triangle conference in Belgium on the 17th April 2008.
This award is only one of four awards given by Tyco Electronics to its supplier base and was awarded to Cablepoint for supplier excellence in logistics, recognizing Cablepoint's achievement in communication, flexibility and reliability.
Receiving such a prestigious award is a great boost for us all at Cablepoint, everyone has worked so hard to make our partnership with Tyco Electronics such a great success.
Cablepoint will continue to support Tyco Electronics with this current project, working together to build a mutually successful future.
Cablepoint, have saved the leading European heating technology specialist, Vaillant Group, 14% in one year on the production costs of a boiler connection box, after providing a cutting-edge solution to improving part of their supply chain.
Cablepoint, based in Hull, redesigned the connection box previously manufactured by Vaillant Group and assembled by Cablepoint, and pro-actively brought together all the teams involved in its creation.
These teams had previously worked separately on the device, which caused delays in the supply chain. The project saw Cablepoint, Vaillant Group’s Purchasing, Production, Engineering Stores and R&D team, as well as a local plastics company come together to decide that the connection box would be made from plastic instead of its original metal material, resulting in a £120,000 cost saving to date.
The project involved Cablepoint using the University of Hull’s Design and Enterprise Centre’s rapid prototyping facilities to produce prototypes in a 24 hour turnaround, with all parties inputting their ideas into the design process.
After eight weeks and five prototype mock-ups, a final design was agreed which satisfied everyone.
Cablepoint then took the final design through British Gas tests to produce a finished product safe for use in the gas industry.
Paul Whybrow of Vaillant Group, said: “Cablepoint really helped to ease production headaches, with their work making significant cost savings and reducing downtime in production. A second great benefit was that the new plastic box is lighter and easier to handle; resulting in significant time savings in the workshop.”
January 1st 2008 will see the introduction of BS 7671: 2008 Requirements for Electrical Installations, IEE Wiring Regulations 17th Edition, which will come into force six months later.
There are a wide range of additions and amendments that will have a direct bearing on many parts of the industry.
Following are a few examples. Please see the end of this article for a direct link to the full article on the IET’s website.
Part 1 adds requirements to protect against voltage disturbances and implement measures against electromagnetic influences. Part 3 adds requirements for safety services, e.g. emergency escape lighting, and fire protection applications.
Chapter 56 has been expanded and includes requirements for emergency escape lighting and fire protection applications. There are also changes to inspection and testing. Changes have been made to the requirements for insulation resistance; when testing SELV and PELV circuits at 250 V, the minimum insulation resistance is raised to 0.5 M ; for systems up to and including 500 V, (including FELV), the minimum insulation resistance is raised to 1.0 M
